ABB Finland joins the JoRes project

Energy Efficiency
ABB‘s Senior CFD Analyst Dr Pasi Miettinen explains:
“Knowing details of the flow coming to a propeller in a ship stern is extremely important for propulsion designers. Up until now, this knowledge was mainly built based on model tests experiments, which may be not accurate due to the scale effect. Modern CFD tools can provide the practitioners with such information in ship scale. However, how do we know that the calculations are correct? It is great to see that the JoRes research project is addressing this challenge and proposing PIV flow measurements in ship scale. No doubt that the flow validation will positively contribute to the development of new and more efficient propulsion systems.”
